FAQ
Do I need to sign up?
No. Pick a name and an avatar and you're in. Your scores, streaks, badges, and progress are saved on this device automatically.
Is it free?
Yes — completely free. No ads, no in-app purchases, no paywalls.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes — Mathness is designed mobile-first. It runs in any modern browser. No app install needed.
What are the three modes?
Solo — unlimited fresh puzzles, climb the global leaderboard. Daily — one shared puzzle everyone plays, one shot per day. Challenge — generate a link, send it to a friend, settle who's sharper on the same puzzle.
How is the score calculated?
Four dimensions add up to a max of 1,350. Accuracy (how close to the target — exact match gets a big bonus), speed (faster submit = more points, 60-second cap), numbers used (more of the five = better), and step efficiency (fewer operators = better).
How does the daily puzzle work?
Everyone gets the same five numbers and same target each day. You get one attempt. Submit and you're locked out until tomorrow — come back the next day to keep your streak alive.
What are levels and badges?
Every point of score earns XP. As your XP climbs, you move up 25 level tiers — Newcomer all the way to Mathness God. There are 32 badges to unlock along the way for streaks, exact matches, speed runs, mode variety, and other milestones. See your progress on your profile.
How do leaderboards work?
Four boards: All-time, Weekly, Daily (today's puzzle), and Friends (your head-to-head record). Sort the global boards by average score, single highest round, or your last 10 rounds.
Can I challenge a friend?
Yes — after any round, tap "Challenge a friend". You get a shareable URL that loads the same puzzle for whoever opens it. Both scores show up side by side and the win is logged on your Friends leaderboard.
